Venue guide

How much sound and light do you actually need?

There's no single number that works for every room. This guide is here to stop you over-ordering — and to tell you honestly when one speaker isn't enough.

Small venue

  • House party
  • Children’s party
  • Small community hall
  • Small pub or function room
  • Family celebration

For many smaller venues, one high-powered speaker provides more than enough sound without filling the room with unnecessary equipment.

Medium venue

  • Medium community hall
  • Larger function room
  • Moderate private event

One speaker is often still enough. A second helps if the room is wide, long or awkwardly shaped, or if the crowd is loud.

Large venue

  • Large halls
  • Stage events
  • Very high-volume events

A single speaker is not the right answer here. Tell us about the venue and we will tell you honestly whether we can cover it.

Being honest about limits

Sony ULT TOWER 10, as a single speaker

As a single speaker it is best suited to small and medium venues. For large halls, very loud crowds or bass-heavy dance events, a second speaker or a larger PA is the better answer — tell us about your venue and we will say so.

There is no single number that works for every venue. It depends on room size and shape, indoor or outdoor, how spread out guests are, background noise and how loud you want it. Start with one speaker for a small venue, and tell us about the room if it is larger.
